Say Gecko!

DSC_0118
Starting off with two really awesome shots that show you guys just how intricate these geckos really are, they are incredibly visually rewarding! great to handle and overall cheap to own and they live for a long time, they don’t need a lot of space and bring me and my friend ours of fun especially when they take down crickets! I shall hopefully have some images to show you of fired up and fired down crested geckos, this means that they change colour dependant on temperature, mood, feeding, whatever, its not certain yet, but it is awesome, and i will have some really good photos currently our geckos are just entering shed so stayed tuned to see what they really can look like, its like a mini chameleon too! DSC_0147

Below is an image of our third lizard to own after the two cresties above, Dave (the name stuck from the person we rescued him from it suits him perfectly) he is a standings day gecko, can’t think of the latin name and need to be quick with this post, got a lot of dissertation notes to organise! BUT he is beautiful a lovely bright green on the head and a bright blue on the tale, he has had some shedding problems we think in the past, but has recently just gone through two sheds really rather smoothly and is putting on weight and muscle! yey dave! we are currently also looking for a girlfriend for him, as these guys are currently on the Vulnerable list! Dave is a Day gecko therefore he comes out in the day time rather than our other geckos who only come out at night, so we have the best of both worlds round the clock, it works really nicely.
DSC_0105DSC_0129  Full body image of Dynamite (red stick colour and she has a fiery spring in her body, explosions of curiosity get the better for her, the name was perfect and thought up from the black dynamite cartoon that me and my friends watched one evening)

DSC_0141

Full body image of Flash, such a beautiful flash of yellow hence the name, she’s a lot calmer than dynamite a couple of weeks late on hatching compared to her sister dynamite and the rest of the clutch, the runt basically, but it was love at first site for me!DSC_0149

These Cresties don’t have any eyelids in fact most if not all gecko species do not have eyelids! instead small spiny eyelash looking protrusions of hard skin and tissue form out of the tops of their eyes like eyelashes that sink inwards reflecting light from their eye in the day time, as they are nocturnal super super bright lights or bright flashes can really effect their eyesight! (i made this image lighter so you could see the ‘eyelash’ sinking of the eye, basically my gecko having a good old 40 winks….kinda!)

Stay tuned for more from me and these guys, we just rescued another gecko from the site Preloved, so many animals un wanted and needing to go to a good home! i am so pleased my boyfriend loves these lil dino’s as much as i do, currently filling out his room and discussing about breeding and selling reptiles and then getting a shop in Copenhagen (we love the city, 1000 free bikes every year just on the road, yes please thank you please)

Tank update

Standard

_DSC0574

Unfortunately the dwarf puffer fish we had all turned out to be males that hadn’t fully matured in their colours which resulted in a sudden pubescent eruption of whose boss, which turned nasty very quickly, plus reaching havoc on all the other tank mates that they had peacefully swum with before. Above is an image of two of the puffs, the one on the left is (if you can believe it, so tiny!) puffing up, or sizing up to the other puffer fish.

Needless to say we had to take the puffs back to Maidenhead and instead have been working on a few new additions! that’s the beauty of fish keeping you never know whats going to happen! even if your 100% sure read loads of books and asked loads of people, things still go wrong. However the picture below shows the absolute gems we picked up as a result,

(displaying male rainbow)

Because we have a good relationship with the members of staff at the Maidenhead aquatics; logo below, Screen Shot 2014-06-14 at 14.29.15

they where happy to take the puffers back as they were bought at a young age so no way of really knowing, and traded us the beautiful orange and electric blue rainbow fish smaller cousin to the larger rainbow fish and the rice fish which is blue bodied with red fins, they are fantastic little characters reaching approx 5 to 7 cm in length perfect for nano aquariums or aquascapes, they don’t eat plant matter either so perfect for a fully planted tank!_DSC0549

The Goby was pretty relieved to have the puffs gone and now spends a lot more time out the front of the tank sitting on rocks in the current as she matures her top fin with turn yellow (you can see it turning slightly in the image) as she matures but will stay the size of a Lego figure! The other Goby turned out to be male and is now in my tank happy and safe as they weren’t quite a match just like the puff but i couldn’t bare to let such a gem of a fish return to the shop he now chills with my red whiptail catfish. _DSC0568

My boyfriend also bought some cherry shrimp! for the even smaller tank we have, these guys are like tiny chilies! if you love staring at things, then these are the dudes to get you in the zone plus they keep your plants so clean, i can understand why they are quickly becoming a huge part of fish keeping (just make sure you get the water quality out they are not as hardy as armano shrimp the common clear coloured ones you may have seen at the store)

i will upload more of what the tank looks like currently, we are however having a dispute as bout possibly going marine, saltwater, we love a challenge and growing corals really excites us, plus my boyfriend is obsessed with gobies, crustaceans and finding the smallest fish he can own.

Stay tuned to see what happens i will keep you informed and upload a present image of the tank, ideas would be welcome, we are still feeling the burn from not being able to keep the puffs 😦

A world at night

A world at night

I love capturing night time when the moon lights the whole earth up like its daytime, it gives a beautiful effect when you develop this visual with film like i have done here, i am really happy with this first one done with just the natural light of the moon, it was so full that evening! this is from my bedroom window at 1 in the morning.

Fun afternoon

Standard

During my university i have met a lot of really interesting people, the person that has mostly stood out for me in terms of their sheer will power and ability to do this degree as a single mum of my age with two kids of 3 and 6 takes some guts and a big dose of believing in yourself, i have a lot of love, respect and time for this person.

We are always meeting for tea and coffee and chats, helping each other with university work and just generally supporting one another and it really has made a difference for both of our lives, hopefully life will play out that we can keep in contact, be good friends and i can watch her little girls grow up. (time-lapse photography opportunity me thinks as well!)

Here are some professional images of her three-year old, Olive whizzing around on her cupcake bike, keeping us both on our toes!

These images where taken professionally by me and as a present for my friend and her kids! they love them and are getting a canvas printed! i really like on the scene shooting, a lifestyle photographer, i love capturing good memories, this was certainly one of them.

Things are picking up!

Standard

My second client less than a month! things are certainly picking up for me professionally, photographically i feel meeting lots of new people and animals. I really prefer shooting on site, travelling to where the client is as the animal is more at peace and therefore achieve beautiful shots below, i am super pleased how they turned out and so thank full the rain held off!

WRENPHOTOGRAPHY

So finally i have enough spare time to tear myself away from my busy schedule, i have a university deadline soon and two deadlines that have already just passed within the past two weeks! during which time i managed to travel to Virginia water on behalf of another freelance photography opportunity, for someone wanting professional images of their dog Joey for their dads birthday!

I had a great day and i think Joey did too, lots of treats and attention! This shoot has really helped me get out into the field of shooting on site, i really enjoyed it and got some mouthwatering shots of beautiful Weimaraner x Bullmastiff  Joey
